Focus Groups
Employee focus groups are a powerful way to dive deeper into specific topics, gather qualitative insights, and engage your team in meaningful conversations about their experiences and perspectives.
Focus groups are widely used in market research, advertising and politics to understand consumer feedback but they can also be a highly effective way to understand how to improve employee experience. Unlike traditional surveys, focus groups provide an interactive forum for employees to share their thoughts in a structured yet open and safe environment. Whether you want to explore new ideas, understand complex issues, or validate feedback gathered from surveys, our expert-led focus groups give you the depth of insight needed to drive positive change.
At MI-Say, we design and facilitate bespoke employee focus groups tailored to your organisation’s needs. We handle everything – from planning and communication to facilitation and reporting – ensuring a smooth process that encourages open dialogue and genuine participation.
When to Use Employee Focus Groups
Employee focus groups are especially valuable when you want to:
Explore Specific Topics in Depth:
Gain deeper insights into particular areas such as leadership effectiveness, workplace policies, ED&I or new initiatives.
Validate Survey Findings:
Use focus groups to delve deeper into key themes or concerns identified in employee surveys, uncovering the “why” behind the data.
Support Change Management:
Gather employee input during periods of change, such as organisational restructuring, new policy implementation, or cultural transformation.
Enhance Employee Engagement:
Provide a platform for employees to voice their thoughts and ideas, demonstrating that their feedback is valued and considered.

Participation in focus groups depends on factors such as the clarity of communication and the perceived relevance of the topics. We typically see strong engagement when sessions are well-promoted and participants understand the value of their contributions. Our experienced facilitators are skilled at creating a welcoming environment that encourages active participation and honest dialogue.
Selecting the right people to take part in the focus group is key to getting the best results. The MI-Say team will work with you to advise on this to best meet your objectives of the project.
We will help you consider the demographics of your workforce and establish a pool of employees who are representative of your employee population.
We recommend keeping focus groups to a maximum of 12 employees to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to be heard.
We will advise on the best location for the focus group (s). It is possible to conduct focus groups remotely using Teams or Zoom, however, in our experience, face to face sessions are often more engaging.
